Financial Intelligence Documentation
How AccountHouse's Financial Intelligence engine continuously analyzes household spending with robust statistics, surfaces evidence-backed findings, and shows the reasoning behind every card.
Audience: Household members and admins using Insights when the entitlement is enabled. · 5-page PDF · v6.26.1
How to read this document
Sections move from purpose → concepts → calculation process → worked examples → edge cases. Formula boxes use plain mathematical notation for clarity; they are conceptual summaries, not API contracts.
- Point lists call out operator-visible behaviour.
- Callouts mark warnings, limitations, or important qualifications.
- Worked examples use round numbers so you can reproduce the arithmetic by hand.
Purpose
Financial Intelligence watches permitted household expense history in the background and produces a ranked feed of findings: spending spikes with the merchants behind them, budgets on pace to be exceeded, newly detected subscriptions, price increases, missed recurring charges, forecasts, and improvements. Every card is backed by stored evidence — what was compared against, over how many months, and which transactions drove it.
- Findings come from statistics over your own history, never invented by AI — the AI layer only rewords validated facts, and any wording that fails number checks falls back to a plain template
- Comparisons use robust baselines (medians over 3/6/12 months) that always exclude the period being judged
- Forecasts are backtested against your own history and refuse to show when they cannot beat a naive guess
- With little history the engine stays conservative: early findings are labeled as early signals, and statistical claims unlock only as months accumulate
Who sees Insights
Insights is entitlement-gated per household. When disabled, standard Analytics charts remain available and the Insights surfaces do not appear.
- Enablement is controlled by system or household admin flags.
- Web: Analytics → Insights when enabled; the dashboard's 'For you' card shows the top findings.
- Mobile: the Home insights card opens the Insights feed; each card expands into its full evidence.
- If the UI is missing, ask an admin — it is not a broken install.
Personal state
Reading, dismissing, or rating a card is personal to you. Other household members keep their own unread state.
Why you can trust a card
Open any finding to see its evidence: the baselines it was compared against (with how many months support each one), the merchants or categories that drove the change, the contributing transactions, and a plain-language note on the method used.
- A spike must clear three gates at once: statistically unusual for that category, financially material for your household, and not something you were already told recently.
- Detected subscriptions offer one-tap tracking — the recurring or payable form opens pre-filled with the amount, cadence, day and category the engine derived.
- Charges already covered by a recurring template or payable are never pitched again, and habitual purchases like groceries are never labeled subscriptions.
- Marking a card 'Not useful' teaches the ranker: similar findings about the same subject rank lower for the next three months.
When analysis runs
The engine runs in the background about once a day, and re-analyzes shortly after bursts of expense edits. Admins can also trigger a rescan, or reset and rebuild all derived intelligence, from the admin console — raw financial data is never touched by either.
A finding, end to end
"Dining hit AED 1,840 in August — 60% above your usual AED 1,150. Mostly 3 extra orders at Deliveroo."
Check it yourself
- Expand the card to see the baselines: the 6-month median (AED 1,150) it was judged against.
- Read the breakdown: which merchants contributed how much of the increase.
- Open the contributing transactions and verify the amounts line by line.
The ledger remains the source of truth — every number on a card traces back to it.
Privacy, advice limits, and what we do not publish
AccountHouse is a household tracking and organisation tool. It is not a bank, payment processor, tax advisor, or investment advisor. Forecasts, health scores, balances, and alerts are informational.
- Household data is scoped to your household; other families cannot see your ledger.
- Public documentation explains product behaviour and calculation concepts, not proprietary internals.
- Exact scoring weights, anomaly thresholds, cryptography parameters beyond high-level algorithms, and operational detection rules are reserved.
- Findings are derived only from your household's own expense history.
- Every card is informational — not financial advice, credit decisions, or accounting.
- Forecast ranges reflect how accurate the same method has actually been on your history, not a guarantee.
Intellectual property boundary
This document describes what AccountHouse calculates and which inputs matter. It does not disclose source algorithms, secret constants, or implementation details sufficient to reconstruct proprietary systems.
